How to Feel Less Overwhelmed on the First Week of Classes

“I’m a Tarheel born, I’m a Tarheel Bred. And when I die I’m a Tarheel Dead”
 ~UNC Alma Mater

I recently experienced UNC's FDOC. The First Day of Classes! I moved in on Friday and settled into my dorm and now I’m here! I’ve been busy readjusting to a new schedule, trying not to fall of my lofted bed, and walking everywhere (at least my dorm is in a good location). Along with classes starting this week, the college has an event called Week of Welcome (WOW) where first years can learn everything about UNC from myriads of organizations, tours of different buildings, and more. Basically, it means I get a lot of free stuff.

So, I was hooked to attend all these events hosted by UNC until I realized I had to find a way to keep track of everything I was doing, prepare for an ensemble audition, start assignments, and find a way to find time to eat! So, I took out my Five Star® 2012-2013 planner, which basically decreased the overwhelming feelings inside. I was able to plan the rest of my days for the week. There I was able to write all my assignments, club meetings, and important events. Therefore, I could see right away what I could or could not do. It even has a perforated corner tab that you can tear out so you can easily turn to the page of the week unlike other planners that have that bookmark that always seems to either damage or never fit in the spiral binding.

UNC has been so exciting! I have lots of reading and papers all ready to do. Also, There has been plenty of practicing with my saxophone. I’m still working as a Five Star Ambassador at www.tinyurl.com/FSTeam which has been really fun as well. For all your organized needs, Five Star® is the way to go!

Six more days..

“This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change.”

Six more days..

To pack. To gather all my textbooks. To tape up the boxes. To practice for the Wind Ensemble audition. To teach myself a little bit of music theory. To figure out how I'm going to fit a refrigerator in my room.  To figure out how to fit all my belongings in the back of the car. To stock up.  To figure out how to design our dorm room with my awesome roommate. To figure out exactly how many CVAC shirts to bring. To begin a new transition.

Six more days..

To spend moments with family. To hug and embrace the dogs who have no clue your leaving, just for a little while. To pick up that video game controller and compete against your brother in Call of Duty. To watch your sister begin her first few days of high school with some of those lovely (cough, cough) teachers. To watching TV with everybody on the couch. To watch Jeopardy while eating dinner. To laugh at each for no apparent reason. To see how far we've come and where we are now headed.

Six more days..

For a new beginning. For a new change. For a step in a different direction. For a new year.

Six more days until UNC.

Creativity is Green

“Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things.” — Theodore Levitt

The college lecture hall can be a hectic hall. If you are like me, you may find yourself in a classroom of over 300 students (yikes!).  You’ll see among plenty notebooks, binders, and computers around. Whatever you use to help you write down your notes, you need to make your official note storage holder stand out above the crowd.

Five Star® sells customizable binders that provide a pocket for you to fit an 8 x 11 inch paper in it. Use that paper to show your personality, creativity, and/or beliefs. Some creative ideas could include pictures of your friends, favorite celebrities, or more. You can physically or electronically create patterns like polka dots or stripes.  You can even decorate like I did where I created a wordle showing the idea of being environment friendly.

In my opinion, this is the best thing about Five Star® products is that their outstanding quality allows students to be environmentally friendly.  Being in this new “green” society, millions of people have started to change their ways in order to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Instead of drinking plastic bottles, we buy our own personal water bottles. We try to ride our bikes, instead of taking the bus. We plant more trees. Five Star® guarantees that their products will never break during a full school year. This allows students to waste less money on school products, allow them to reuse the products for another semester, and if your like me, recycle them for other purposes instead of just school products like travel logs (Hybrid Notebinder), coupon holders (Zipper binders), and more.
